iPod + light Switch // 10.26.05

i started off with the iPod. though there are a lot of things that could be done to improve the iPod, many of which have been done in other mockups or competing products, i tried to start with what i wanted in an iPod.

i started with moving the hold button on the right side of the ipod, then added a volume job dial on the side, along with a radio button. the radio button, when slid like the hold button, would move the ipod from playing mp3s to am or fm. the main dial would act as the band tuner.

on the back of the new iPod, i added a camera, if nokia can add a 1.3 mp camera, then surely apple can. i also added native bluetooth and a wifi card to the ipod. the chipsets are smaller, get them in there. i want one device!, not 5 slim and mini devices!

this bug list may seem impractical, though i'm shooting for pie-in-the-sky design, so weight, cost, and size are not as much of a factor here, just use.

looking at my light switch, i decided what i wanted was to start with a bug list, and then come up with some improvements. the backlighted light switch is pretty great as it is, the only things i wanted to add were a motion sensor to save energy, and a timer that could be controlled by my laptop via bluetooth, or tie into my alarm clock... this feature is really from thinking about how much harder it is to stay in bed when the lights and the alarm are on. (thx m+d for the inspiration on this one.)
